Ruth & Jim Smith

MY AUNT RUTH is my father’s sister. She and Jim were high school sweethearts who got married right out of high school. That was around the time of World War II, which they spent in California while my uncle served in the navy. They moved to Indianapolis, and he went to work for the gas company. They eventually settled in Greencastle, Indiana, about 40 miles southwest of Indianapolis. They raised two daughters, both of whom live in Florida now.

This picture was taken in the livingroom of their home in Greencastle. As a child, I would spend a week there each summer. The house had been a gas station before being made into a house. It was directly across from the Putnam County fairgrounds north of town.
