South Venice:
Pictures of the Area

The Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) separates South Venice and its private beach. A ferry runs between them to allow access to the beach by South Venice residents and their guests. We lived a block over from the ICW. It was a favorite place to watch boats, to fish, and to just walk with friends and family. Here, along the banks of the ICW near our home are, from your left, Barbara, Angela, and Barbara’s sister Cherry.

One of three draw bridges that connects the island portion of Venice with the mainland, the South Venice draw bridge opening to allow boat traffic to pass up and down the Intracoastal Waterway. When boats too tall to fit under the bridge were allowed passage, all traffic on Business 41 stopped to allow their passage.

This picture was taken on the ICW near the South Venice Ferry dock. The bird is one of a number of different types of cranes that could regularly be seen in the area.

Looking south down the ICW from its banks inside Shamrock Park. The park was about 2 miles north of our house.
