Judge Rick DeFuria

When he married Barbara and me, Rick DeFuria was a county court judge. He is currently a senior judge. This title puts him in a pool of more than 100 retired judges who can be called upon to serve on the bench in any of the state’s judicial districts wherever they are needed.  A former prosecutor and private attorney, he was first elected to the Sarasota County court in 1980 and re-elected in 1984.

In 1986 he retired to study acting at Florida State University and the Asolo Theater. He later pursued a career on stage and in television, including a one-year stint as the anchor for SNN Channel 6, the 24-hour news channel operated by the Sarasota Herald-Tribune and Comcast Cable TV. During that time, he remained a senior judge.
